A preliminary task is a small sequence involving all the different editing techniques i needed to use such as; continuity, shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule, framing and micro-aspects. I did this preliminary task to help with my eating skills, show me how to use a camera and tripod as well as getting to know different camera shots for different effects. This was to help me prepare for my opening sequence task by understanding and learning how to use the tools in editing, how to adjust the camera and frame the whole video. You can see the match on action when Sean opens the door which i really liked as it flowed nicely together and worked really well. I used the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot in the scene where Danny and Sean sit at the table talking, when Danny speaks the camera is on him then when Sean speaks the camera is on him. I filmed the 180 degree rule correctly as you can see the match in eyeliner from the two actors. You cans see continuity as all of the scenes/hots flow but I would improve on the shot where Sean walks through the door from opening it, i could've made that flow more. I believe that i framed the shots well as Danny nor Sean got cut off. I also used micr- aspects such as sound (dialogue) when Danny and Sean are sitting down speaking. I use mine-en-scene as they wore suits for their customer to show they were at a formal meeting. I used cinematography to shot different angles my most effective is my low angle shot as it drew all attention on Sean which was my aim. I used editing to make my clip flow. I was away for two weeks, this meant i was behind on the preliminary task. The first day back to school i wrote down my narrative for my task which was about a man being late for an interview. I choose my actors which were Danny Cooke and Sean Savva. I would change some of the camera angles to make them more effective and show the story more to help the audience know more about the characters and setting without actually saying it. E.g. If i wanted a person to look like they have higher status and are more important I would do a low angle shot looking up at someone. I would also include a better continuity in my next task as i feel like the continuity was good but lacked flow from time to time and made the cup look less effective. I feel like my task went better than I originally thought as I had such little time to do it I thought it wouldn't look very good, but after editing it and applying all the different shots together, it looked good. It helped increase my knowledge about editing as I had no idea how to edit a clip before and i know so much more now; I know how to fade music in and out, I know how to trim a clip to make it flow, I know how to change the sound and speed, I know how to add in music or sounds etc. The feedback i received from my peers were that the clip was very comical as well as the comparisons of the binary opposite characters. The diegetic sounds complimented the narrative and all of the editing aspects were included but my peers said the would've liked the sequences to be a little longer due to the way my narrative was left on a cliff hanger. The things that went well were the beginning sequence where the camera began with a low angle shot of Sean running which worked really well with the music choice as it gave it a comedic feel to it which also was shown in the next scene where Danny was typing on his laptop. The things my peers said we could've done better is fading the non-diegetic sound earlier than it does as it only cuts of just before the dialogue, as well as, recommending when the opening sequence is edited that sound must be carefully considered to add to the fluency and continuity of the sequence. Another thing they said we could've done was reshoot the scene where Danny laughed a bit as it removes the tense and built up atmosphere. Finally, they said the cut of Danny saying ‘I don’t care get out!’ was cut slightly earlier at the beginning which caused a slight pause which breaks up the continuity. They then said overall that the framing/composition was excellent, with really nice sequences and a match on action. The characters were shown well and the narrative was clear. The things you should take in to consideration for next time is have further diversity of camera shots and although the 80 degree rule was used the angles of Danny's shots and Sean's shots were different which lost a bit of the continuity for that sequence. Maybe it was due to lack of space so in order to overcome this move things around in the room so the space is open for you to experiment with. Lastly, before filming the opening sequence i would advice you think more about different camera shots and not just basic ones and different more creative editing techniques to make the whole piece more interesting for the audience to watch as well as the continuity being kept throughout.
